design consultation: the process & cost
I. initial consultation:
The initial consultation at our showroom is free of charge. If the client is able to provide an architectural drawing or some kind of rough sketch of the space (indicating doors, windows, wall dimensions, ceiling height, etc.) we would be happy to provide them with a "ball park" estimate for the project.
It is helpful if the client can give us an idea of options, finishes, their budget, and general expectations they have. The more information we have, the closer the "ball park" estimate will be. This estimate will be accurate enough to support a good buying decision. If clients prefer one of the designers to visit the site for measurements or consultation, there is a $250 charge inside Washington, DC. Please contact the showroom for site visits outside the metro DC area.
Site visit fee is non-refundable and not applicable towards the purchase price.
Our clients receive our full attention while we work on the designs. We conduct a detailed interview to discuss our clients' personal preferences, work habits, and storage needs, which guide us to a proper space plan that is both beautiful and functional. Often, we will inspect the site and perform measurements, if necessary. Our staff is always happy to provide expert guidance to help our clients make selections.
After all the necessary information is gathered we prepare a complete design and an accurate quotation of the final cost, including shipping and installation. The formal design work takes about seven to ten days.
To proceed with the more detailed design work and drawings, we require a non-refundable retainer fee –usually eight to ten percent of the estimate. The retainer fee is non-refundable but fully applied toward the purchase price.
Once the client is completely satisfied with the design, we proceed to draw a contract and order the product. Fifty percent of the remaining cost of the project is required to place an order with the factory. This is the industry standard for custom orders, since the order is so detailed and specific. In turn, our clients are protected with an itemized, written agreement.
IV: delivery and installation
Production and shipping time is usually eight to twelve weeks for furniture and ten to fourteen weeks for kitchens, beginning from when the order is placed. We keep our clients abreast of fabrication and shipping progress, as well as when the product will reach the warehouse. Once the product arrives at the warehouse, we contact the client to find a convenient time for everything to be delivered and installed. The remaining balance for the furniture is due at that time. Total installation time may vary, depending on the scope of the project.
